Data Modeling using FHIR (2017)

July 19-21, 2017
(Instructor: Damian Borbolla and Viet Nguyen) and from HSPC Rick Freeman, and Travis Cummings.TA Jaco Crumps

Background: Use of standards are critical for interoperability and are required for the meaningful use of data, both for their primary use (e.g. in the clinical setting) as well as their secondary use for quality monitoring, public health reporting, decision support, research and analysis. It is important for persons involved in the design, development and use of systems to understand the role, use and benefits of standards. This course provides foundational knowledge and introduces Summer School participants to the skills, resources, and concepts that will allow them to work with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) standard (Pronounced “fire”). FHIR is a the new, rapidly evolving standard,  that offers to accelerate interoperability and even create a universal health app platform

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe FHIR framework and its components
  • Get familiar with ClinFHIR
  • Develop FHIR resources and use them to retrieve information from a public clinical database
  • Get familiar with HSPC platform and sandbox
